Hello, My Name is Denise Berkes-Sanchez
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for taking the time to visit my site.
Background Psychotherapy is actually a second career for me. Though my undergraduate background was psychology I had entered into a tech career working with one of the top companies in the world. The focus of the work I did was mostly customer oriented, but at the end of the day it was about high tech devices and business. Since I had a deep interest in understanding people and relationships, combined with a strong desire to help people in my community, I decided graduate school was the next step I needed to take in order to pursue a career in psychotherapy as a couple and family therapist. |
Credientials
Currently I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the Board of Behavioral Sciences for the State of California. |
What I am like in a sessionI'm a very sincere, very "real" person that people find comforting, trustworthy and easy to open up to.
I am easygoing yet professional. I really try to match my approach to your needs in the moment I sometimes use humor if its appropriate to the situation and our level of rapport. I am completely focused on you in that moment and will ask for clarification when needed or validate when necessary. I'm confident that these qualities and all my other skills can help you along your path to personal growth. |
Psychotherapeutic Experience
I began seeing clients in 2013 at Hope for Healthy Families Counseling Agency when Leina Hoyt MA LMFT was the Executive Director and provided my Supervision. It was a wonderful resource for the Elk Grove community and its employees.
In March 2017 I began to see clients at Couples Resource Collective in Sacramento, CA. At the time the therapists were supervised by Carissa Sherwood MA who is a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. CRC is in Sacramento and has a warm and inviting office at the corner of Northrop and Fulton Avenue.
In April of 2018 I was an Associate MFT at Life Practice Counseling. Life Practice Counseling was created and supervised by Carissa Sherwood who is the executive director and is filled with wonderful MFT Associates she gives guidance to.
2021 is the year I began my "virtual" private practice.

Personal Commitment to Inclusivity
Inclusivity and diversity is now and has always been critically important to me.
I have been fortunate to work with people of many different cultures, religions, gender variations, sexual orientations and abilities. Working with clients from a diverse socio-economic background has been an amazing experience as well.
I know what it is like to be different, to stand out, to feel like the "other", to not be accepted, to be bullied and be discriminated against. It is because of my lived experiences that my clients know that my empathy is genuine.
I will always advocate for and support my clients as they deal with a wide spectrum of issues from trauma and crisis to helping both individuals and couples who wish to grow and connect better with one another and the wider world.
